‘Zee Talk’ with Sarah Nelson, Pure Barre

Sarah Nelson, Director of Operations – Pure Barre New Orleans & Metairie Road

1. How long have you been in franchising? What location(s) do you currently manage?
I started working behind the front desk with Pure Barre in 2011. Over the past 9 years, I have worked my way to leading operations and handling all aspects of the business at Pure Barre New Orleans & Metairie Road.

2. How long have you been a Franchise Ramp client?
We began using Franchise Ramp in June 2020 right after we reopened our New Orleans locations post-COVID initial shutdowns to help aid in growing our membership base and to get the word out about our re-opening.

3. What results did you achieve with your location, and what do you think was the biggest contributors to that success?
With New Orleans, our biggest achievements from Franchise Ramp were definitely the large number of qualified leads directly received. We’ve connected with nearly 400 people in our community through these efforts over the past 5 months.
Re-opening during a pandemic has truly created many challenges in our normal sales process; therefore, with the help of Franchise Ramp providing these leads, we were able to bring in nearly 50 new members to our business in some capacity whether it be virtually, in-person, or through outdoor classes.

4. What do you think is a core differentiator that allows you to reach the next level of success at Pure Barre New Orleans?
I think what makes New Orleans unique is community. Our city thrives on connection with people; therefore, the work of Franchise Ramp helps to inform our city that we are here, we are open, and we are providing a safe space for you during this time has set us apart.

5. Any advice for other Operators in your industry?
Always be ready to pivot. Through the past 9 years, each day brought new ideas, innovations, and challenges to keep us at the top of our industry, but 2020 truly has proved that fitness is ever-changing and you have to believe in your product. What happens behind those studio doors matters; everything else is just lagniappe. To stay relevant, you must understand what your customer needs and execute. Never be afraid to try something new.

6.  What are your goals going into 2021?
Safety and survival. During a pandemic, we are 100% focused on keeping our community safe and healthy while maintaining our small business. In the fitness world, especially right now, we understand how important staying active is; therefore, our goal is to continue to provide that to our city in whatever capacity we can. As we always say in Pure Barre, “You are so much stronger than you think,” and we will come out stronger at the end of this.
